Designing a Recipe App for Outdoor Enthusiasts

During my UI design course, I had the opportunity to develop a recipe app with a unique twist. I decided to create an app aimed at nature enthusiasts who want to cook while hiking or exploring the outdoors. There are currently no similar apps, and I thought there could be interest in learning what meals can be prepared, how to prepare them, and what ingredients are sustainable and easy to carry.

Homepage
On the homepage, I’ve gathered examples of recipes, how to prepare them, and the number of ingredients required.

There are also categories for long-distance hikers, families with children, etc.

You can also get tips on dishes that can be cooked over an open fire, on a Muurikka, etc.

There is also a section showing what you can eat directly from nature.

Recipe Page
I’ve created a recipe page with instructions in both text and file format.

Filtering Page
I’ve also developed a filtering page where you can filter recipes by categories such as vegetarian, meat, child-friendly, fish, etc. There are also inspiring articles, recipes, and videos available.

What Can I Eat in Nature?
Finally, I’ve created a landing page where you can take pictures of things in nature to check if they are edible. Further down, there are tips on berries, mushrooms, and plants that are safe to eat, along with recipes where you can use these as ingredients.

Key Features of the App

Thanks to this course, I learned Figma from the ground up. I’m starting to understand the advantages of Figma and how the tool can really simplify the work of a UX designer, especially when using auto layout and components. Throughout this course, I’ve also learned how to work with typography, margins, colors, shapes, and much more.
